XCLN: ErrMsg: An OLE Registration Error Occurred. The Program Is Not Correctly Installed

ID: Q240680

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Outlook Windows NT client, version 8.5
  • Microsoft Outlook Windows 95/98 client, version 8.5

SYMPTOMS

When a user opens an e-mail message that contains embedded Lotus Notes document links on a computer where the Lotus Notes client is not installed, the following error message appears:

An OLE registration error occurred. The program is not correctly installed. Run Setup again for the program.
After the users clicks the OK button, the message is not displayed.

CAUSE

When Outlook attempts to locate the OLE server for the embedded documents, it can't find it because the OLE server is not registered. This error causes Outlook to be unable to open the message.

WORKAROUND

Install the Lotus Notes client on the same computer to register the OLE server.

STATUS

MORE INFORMATION

After you install the hotfix, the error message will still be displayed, but when the user clicks the OK button, the e-mail message body is displayed as best as possible. Outlook does not suppress an error message like this so that the user is aware that the content of the message may not all be there.
