SYMPTOMSWhile you are running Microsoft Exchange Performance Optimizer, you get a series of error messages, each stating that a file cannot be found and ending in error 800FF330 as in the following example: The rest of the errors may include not finding the C:\Exchsrvr\Mdbdata\Priv.edb, C:\Exchsrvr\Mdbdata\Pub.edb, and C:\Exchsrvr\Dsadata\*.log files. As a result, even though you are offered a chance on the following screen to relocate the Exchange Server database paths, the files are not moved, and the registry changes that are normally made when the files are moved are not made. CAUSEWhen you set up an Exchange Server computer, it is possible to run the Setup.exe program with the /r option. This option was originally designed to install Exchange Server without creating full copies of the Exchange Server databases. It creates a directory service database (Dir.edb), but it is not a complete version. It cannot successfully create private and public information store databases (Priv.edb and Pub.edb). The Setup.exe program creates registry keys to point to where all the Exchange Server databases should go. After installation, all of these keys point to the same drive partition that Exchange Server was installed to. If this drive is too small to completely restore your Exchange Server databases to, you may not be able to change the location of the databases without re-installing Exchange Server. RESOLUTIONRun the Exchange Server Setup.exe program without the /r option. After you complete the installation of Exchange Server, run the Performance Optimizer to move the databases.
