XWEB: Access Violation in the Inetinfo.exe File After Repeatedly Saving Changes to Appointment

SYMPTOMS

If you use Outlook Web Access (OWA) to create a new appointment that contains double-byte character set (DBCS) characters in the Subject or Location field or in the appointment body, and then you repeatedly save changes to the appointment, an access violation may occur in the Inetinfo.exe file, and the following events may be logged in the application event log:

Event ID: 4097
Source: DrWatson
Description: The application, exe\inetinfo.dbg, generated an application error. The error occurred on date @ time. The exception generated was c0000005 at address 77f54ac3 (RtlAllocateHeap).

Event ID: 5
Source: Active Server Pages
Description: Error: file filename unexpected error
Note that the second event may be logged multiple times.


CAUSE

Insufficient memory is allocated to perform the operation on the Exchange Server computer.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Outlook Web Access version 5.5.
