XWEB: Cannot Open Microsoft Office Attachments After Applying Exchange Server 5.5 Service Pack 3

SYMPTOMS

After you install Service Pack 3 (SP3) for Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 on an Outlook Web Access (OWA) server, the following problem may arise. If a Microsoft Office document is attached to an e-mail message and then sent to another user, the e-mail recipient cannot view the attachment by using OWA when Office 2000 is also installed on the client workstation. A couple of issues occur after this happens.

OWA prompts the user for credentials.

After credentials are supplied, OWA displays a blank Office document, or it displays the following error message:

Navigation Cancelled.

OWA may also display the following error message:

Application Canceled.

This problem also affects Office 97 .csv files if you use Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
