XADM: Information Store Stops Responding When Starting an Automatic Forward Rule

SYMPTOMS

Microsoft Exchange Server version 5.5 Service Pack 3 may stop responding and crash unexpectedly when adding HTML markup to auto-forwared items.

CAUSE

There is an access violation in the information store because of heap corruption.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix that corrects this problem is now available from Microsoft, but it has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. If you are not severely affected by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Microsoft Exchange Server version 5.5 service pack that contains this fix.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Exchange Server version 5.5 Service Pack 3.IMPORTANT: The Store.exe file for the fix is modified to provide additional application programming interface (API) support. When you apply the fix, it automatically upgrades the information store. After the upgrade, the server cannot be restored to any older version of the Store.exe file before build 2651.32
