XADM: The Network Path Was Not Found When Installing Exchange Server 5.5 on a Computer Running Windows 2000 Server

• Microsoft Exchange Server, version 5.5, used with:
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server

SYMPTOMS

If you try to install Exchange Server version 5.5 on a computer running Microsoft Windows 2000 Server, the following message may be displayed:

The Network Path Was Not Found.

CAUSE

The remote registry service did not start.

RESOLUTION

Start the Windows 2000 remote registry service and reinstall Exchange Server.

STATUS

This behavior is by design. Exchange Server requires remote access to the registry, even if you install Exchange Server locally.
