SUMMARY

There are a number of Web sites that provide information and test resources to combat "spam" mail, or junk mail. The content of the sites varies, but most provide the following information:

  • Explanations of spam mail.


  • Guidelines for how to prevent spam mail.


  • Sources where you can report or register hosts that allow open relaying.


  • Tools to determine if a Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) host is open to relay mail.


  • Tools to determine Domain Name System (DNS) information.


  • Request for Comments (RFC) specifications or links to the RFC specifications that pertain to relaying.
