XADM: Setup Stops Responding During Directory Replication when Installing Exchange Server 5.5 on Windows 2000 Advanced Server

SYMPTOMS

When you install Exchange Server version 5.5 on a computer running Windows 2000 Advanced Server and join an existing Exchange Server 5.5 site, setup may stop responding during directory replication. The following event may be displayed in the Windows 2000 Event Viewer:

Event ID: 1005
Type: Error
Microsoft Exchange Directory ID: c1010aae
Unexpected error 0xc0040000. The object cannot be found in the directory. This may be because replication has not completed.


CAUSE

The Exchange Server service account is not a member of the local administrators group.


RESOLUTION

In Control Panel, double-click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Computer Management. Click to expand Local Users and Groups, click Groups, and then double-click Administrators in the right pane. Click Add and add the Exchange Server service account to the local administrators group.
