ID: Q147750

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Fortran PowerStation for Windows 95 and Windows NT, version 4.0

SYMPTOMS

Attempting to view an assumed-shape character array's elements in the debugger fails with the message "Subscript out of range" for each of the array elements.

RESOLUTION

Use the memory window to view the array elements. For further information on using the memory window, please see the Microsoft Fortran PowerStation version 4.0 Books Online topic, "Using the Memory Window."

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a bug in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

MORE INFORMATION

Using Developer Studio, build the following sample code. After building the project, on the Developer Studio Build menu, click Debug, and then click Step Into to begin the debugging process. Step into the subroutine SUB(), and in either the watch or quickwatch window, type the array name I and then expand the array by clicking the nesting symbol (+). The message "Subscript out of range" is reported for all the array elements.
