Windows CE Services Causes Remote Access Error in Windows NT

SYMPTOMS

After you install Windows CE Services on a desktop computer running Microsoft Windows NT and Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS), you may receive the following error message when you restart the desktop computer:

RASMAN! <xxxxxxxx()>
RASMAN! <xxxxxxxx()>
RASMAN! <xxxxxxxx()>
NEXT: Services Failed to Start: One or more services on which the Remote Access Service depends have failed to start. These services are required for communications with the mobile device. Restart this computer...


CAUSE

This issue can occur when Windows CE Services is configured to connect automatically when the Mobile Devices window is open, and there is a shortcut to Mobile Devices in the Startup group.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, install the latest Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack. For information about how to obtain the latest Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

To work around the issue, wait approximately 20 seconds before you log on to the network.
