SYMPTOMS
When you synchronize a Handheld PC (H/PC) with a desktop computer using an
infrared connection, you may be disconnected.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
- Quit all programs on the H/PC before you connect to the desktop
computer, and then test to see if the issue is resolved. If the issue
continues to occur, proceed to the next step.
- Use an infrared connection that is not configured to use compression. To
do this, follow these steps:
- On the H/PC, tap Start, tap Programs, tap Communication, and then
tap Remote Networking.
- Double-tap Make New Connection.
- In the "Type a name for the connection" box, type a name for the
connection, tap Direct Connection, and then tap Next.
- In the "Select the device that you want to use" box, tap Infrared
Port.
- Tap TCP/IP Settings, and then tap the Use Software Compression and
Use IP Header Compression check boxes to clear them.
- Tap OK, and then tap Finish. Test to see if the issue is resolved.
If the issue continues to occur, proceed to the next step.
- On the desktop computer, reduce the speed of the communications (COM)
port to 57600 bits per second or lower. To do this, follow these steps:
- On the desktop computer, click Start, point to Settings, and then
click Control Panel.
- Double-click System.
- On the Device Manager tab, click the PLUS SIGN (+) beside Ports (COM
& LPT) to expand the branch.
- Double-click the COM port that the infrared connection is configured
to use.
- On the Port Settings tab, click 57600 or lower in the Bits Per Second
box.
- Click OK until you return to Control Panel.
- Close Control Panel, and then restart the computer. Test to see if
the issue is resolved. If the issue continues to occur, repeat this
step to further reduce the speed of the communications (COM) port.
