SUMMARY

This article lists the issues that are resolved in Microsoft Windows CE 2.11 for the Handheld PC version 3.0 Professional Edition Service Pack 1 and Handheld PC Professional Edition 3.01.

Service Pack 1 (SP1) is a RAM-upgradeable series of fixes for the Handheld PC (H/PC) Pro 3.0 edition only. Handheld PC Professional Edition 3.01 is an upgrade included on the device from the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM).

SP1 is downloadable from your OEM's Web site. The 3.01 upgrade is only available on a new H/PC 3.0 Pro device. You can check the version of your device by tapping Start, tapping Settings, tapping Control Panel, and then double-tapping System. The version of the device is available on the System tab. The Core System Version number should be 2.11 on the H/PC 3.0 and H/PC 3.01.

The following enhancements have been made:
  • Support for downloading uuencoded attachments for previously downloaded e-mail messages that have been modified on the server.

  • Support for downloading attachments using POP3 from a Cyrus IMAP4 version 1.5.2 server. Previously, doing so corrupted the attachments.

  • Support for downloading uuencoded attachments from a Solaris mail server. Previously, doing so could corrupt the attachments.

  • Support for detection of built-in Ethernet cards.

  • Support for connecting to mail servers using a blank password.

  • Support for downloading messages sent from a Microsoft Exchange server to Qualcomm Qpopper mail servers. Previously, these messages would show an error message stating that an unsupported mail attachment or message type had been removed.

  • Support for addressing based on the "Reply-To:" header when replying to messages downloaded using IMAP4.

  • Support for sending messages with subjects longer than 260 characters or addresses with friendly names and addresses that are longer than 100 characters. Previously, doing so could cause Inbox to stop responding.

  • Support for receiving mail messages sent from a Netscape mail client that include an embedded Netscape mail message. Previously, doing so could cause Inbox to display a "Critical Error" message.

  • Support for resolving addresses against LDAP servers when a message is sent to the server.

  • Consistent removal of all message headers from online folders that are not marked for offline use, on the device after the device is disconnected.

  • Support for receiving messages sent from Microsoft Office 2000 programs through POP3.

  • Support for an extended time-out duration for non-responsive servers.

  • Consistent handling of forwarded or replied-to messages with uuencoded attachments. Previously, attachments could be corrupted in some circumstances.

Microsoft Pocket Internet Explorer SP1/3.01 Fixes

The following enhancements have been made:
  • Consistent interpretation of security certificate expiration dates. Previously, connections may have stopped working to some sites immediately following a connection to a site with a different security level or if the target site had different security levels within the same site.

  • Consistent display of Web pages containing specific Japanese characters. Previously, trying to display pages containing these characters would not work. These characters include any characters that contain the 5c trail byte. This is not a characteristic that is apparent by looking at the character but rather it is part of the internal description for the character. One common character containing this trail byte is the Yen symbol.

  • Support for disabling JScript (3.01 only).

  • Enhanced performance in loading frames pages (3.01 only).

  • Enhanced performance in loading cached Web pages (3.01 only).

  • Data in forms not being properly sent when using specific Japanese characters (3.01 only).

  • Consistent connection to FTP sites. Previously, in many cases, attempts to connect would result in server errors (3.01 only).

Microsoft Pocket Access SP1/3.01 Fixes

The following enhancements have been made:
  • Support for filtering a record set on the quotation mark (") character and then switching to a different datasheet view. Previously, doing so caused Pocket Access to stop responding.

  • Support for sorting on multiple columns on devices with the StrongArm 1100 processor. Previously, doing so caused Pocket Access to display a "Field not found" message.

  • Support for cutting and pasting large amounts of text between Pocket Excel and Pocket Access. Previously, doing so could cause Pocket Access to stop responding.

  • Support for placing the focus in a blank row in Table Design view, tapping Save, and then entering the field name. Previously, the field name would be lost if you entered the name immediately after a save and then saved again.

  • Consistent inclusion of newly created tables in the list of tables in the navigation menu.

Microsoft Pocket Word SP1/3.01 Fixes

The following enhancements have been made:
  • Support for opening Microsoft Word 97 documents that contain headers, footers, or footnotes. Previously, certain documents that contained these characteristics could cause Pocket Word to stop responding.

  • Support for opening Microsoft Word 95 documents that contain forms on the StrongArm SA1100 processor. Previously, doing so could cause Pocket Word to stop responding.

Microsoft Pocket Excel Fixes (3.01 Only)

The following enhancements have been made:
  • Proper handling of files with custom number formats when the file is opened in Microsoft Excel 97 after it has been converted from Excel 97 to Pocket Excel and then back to Excel 97. Previously, doing so could cause Excel 97 to stop responding (3.01 only).

  • Support for converting Pocket Excel files with area references below row 256 to Excel 95/97. Previously, doing so corrupted the references in the file (3.01 only).

  • Support for converting Excel 95 files with named functions that refer to other names (for example, defining the name "fctn1" to refer to "=DATE(var1,var2,var3)" where "varx" is a defined name) to Pocket Excel. Previously, doing so caused some named functions to disappear from the file (3.01 only).

  • Support for converting Excel 95 files with a reference to a deleted sheet to Pocket Excel. Previously, converting the file several times and then opening the file in Pocket Excel could cause Pocket Excel to stop responding (3.01 only).

  • Proper user notification if the device storage is full when saving a file as Excel 95 or Excel 97 from within Pocket Excel. Previously, the user was not notified of the lack of storage space, and in some cases the file was corrupted (3.01 only).

Microsoft Pocket PowerPoint SP1/3.01 Fixes

The following enhancements have been made:
  • Support for on-device conversion of Microsoft PowerPoint 97 files.

  • Enhanced handling of GIF images that have color tables with less than 256 colors. The image decoder used by Pocket Internet Explorer and Pocket PowerPoint expects that GIF images will have 256 entries in their color table. This is not always true, as in the case of GIF images created by PowerPoint 2000. Previously, with GIF images that contain color tables with fewer entries, the decoder incorrectly processes the image and renders it as a random or unintelligible image (3.01 only).

World Clock SP1/3.01 Fixes

The following enhancements have been made:
  • Inclusion of Canberra, Australia in the city list.

  • Correct time zone for Brisbane, Australia.

  • Correct daylight saving time switching for Australian, Finnish, and Russian cities.
