SideWinder 3D Pro Is Not Compatible with Media Vision Premium

SYMPTOMS

When you connect the Microsoft SideWinder 3D Pro joystick to the game port of a Media Vision Premium 3D sound card, the joystick may not function.


CAUSE

This behavior can occur because the Media Vision Premium 3D sound card game port is not compatible with the Microsoft SideWinder 3D Pro joystick.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.


  2. Double-click Joystick.


  3. Hold the joystick handle off-center toward the left about 5 to 10 degrees, and then click Test.


The joystick should now function properly. To test the joystick, follow these steps:

  1. Press and hold down both buttons simultaneously. The Button 1 and Button 2 indicators should brighten.


  2. While you hold both buttons down, move the point-of-view hat switch in all directions. Both button indicators should remain bright while the point-of-view hat indicators also brighten in all directions.


  3. Move the throttle up and down. The throttle indicator should respond to the movement.
