Cannot Use Pass-Through Mode with Two SideWinder Game Pads

ID: Q156255

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft SideWinder game pad, version 1.0

SYMPTOMS

When you press the Mode button on the Microsoft SideWinder game pad to enable Pass-Through mode, the green light may blink off once, and then back on without switching control to the attached gaming device.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you have two or more SideWinder game pads connected in a series (or daisy-chained). You can enable Pass-Through mode on the SideWinder game pad only when a gaming device other than a SideWinder game pad is connected to it.

RESOLUTION

To enable Pass-Through mode on the SideWinder game pad, connect the SideWinder game pad directly to the game port on your computer, and then connect a different gaming device to the SideWinder game pad.

MORE INFORMATION

The green light on the SideWinder game pad indicates whether the device is in Digital Overdrive mode or Pass-Through mode. When the green light is on, the device is in Digital Overdrive mode, which enables you to use your SideWinder game pad. When the green light is off, the device is in Pass-Through mode, which enables you to use other devices you attach to the SideWinder game pad.

You can connect and use up to four Microsoft SideWinder game pads in a series (daisy-chained). However, when you connect two or more SideWinder game pads in a series, you cannot enable Pass-Through mode on any of them.
