SideWinder Force Feedback Pro and Maxi Sound Game Theater 64

SYMPTOMS

When you use a Microsoft SideWinder game device connected to a Maxi Sound Game Theater 64 audio adapter, the joystick may not function properly, or the Status column in the Game Controllers tool in Control Panel may display "Not Connected."


RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.


  2. Double-click Multimedia.


  3. If you are running Microsoft Windows 95, click the Advanced tab. If you are running Microsoft Windows 98, click the Devices tab.


  4. Double-click Audio Devices.


  5. Double-click "Audio for Maxi Sound Audio Codec."


  6. Click Settings, and then click the Use Single Mode DMA check box to select it.


  7. Click OK until you return to Control Panel.


  8. Close Control Panel, and then restart the computer.


If the issue continues to occur, confirm that the MIDI port address for the audio adapter is set to either 0300-0301 or 0330-0331. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.


  2. Double-click System.


  3. On the Device Manager tab, double-click Sound, Video And Game Controllers.


  4. Double-click "Maxi Sound 64 Dynamic 3D Audio Codec."


  5. Click the Resources tab.


  6. In the Resource Settings box, if one of the Input/Output Range settings matches any of the following settings, change the setting for that Input/Output Range:
    
        - 0310-0311
        - 0320-0321
        - 0340-0341 
    To change an Input/Output Range setting, follow these steps:

    1. Click the Use Automatic Settings check box to clear it.


    2. In the Resource Settings box, click the Input/Output Range entry, and then click Change Setting.


    3. In the Edit Input/Output Range dialog box, use the up or down arrows in the Value box to change the Input/Output Range to one of the following values:
      
             - 0300-0301
             - 0330-0331 
      Make sure the Conflict Information box confirms that the setting you have chosen does not conflict with any other devices, and then click OK.


    4. Click OK. When you are prompted to continue creating a forced configuration, click Yes.


    5. Click Close. If you are prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.
