Cannot Close SideWinder Throttle Control in NovaLogic Games

SYMPTOMS
When you use the SideWinder Precision Pro joystick in some NovaLogic games,
you may not be able to fully close the throttle.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, follow these steps. Test the joystick after each
step to see if the behavior is resolved.
- Determine that the operating system you use supports the joystick. Note
that the SideWinder Precision Pro joystick is supported in Windows 95/98
only.
- Determine if your sound card has any known issues supporting a digital
only game device. For information about sound cards with known issues
supporting a digital only game device, see the SideWinder Precision Pro
Readme.txt file included on the SideWinder Game Device software
version 2.0 CD-ROM.
- Connect the joystick directly to the game port.
- In the Game Controllers tool, test the joystick. To do so, follow these
steps:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Game Controllers, click the joystick you want to test,
and then click Properties.
- On the Test tab, follow the instructions on the screen to test the
joystick. Note that when you move the throttle control to the off
position, the arrow should disappear.
- If the joystick does not work correctly, continue to the next step.
If the joystick does work correctly, click OK until you return to
Control Panel, and then skip to step 5.
- Click OK, click the joystick you want, and then click Remove.
- Click Add, click the correct joystick, click OK, and then click OK.
NOTE: The Microsoft SideWinder Game Device software, version 2.0
calibrates a digital game device automatically.
- On the taskbar, right-click the Microsoft SideWinder Profile Activator
icon, and then click Unload.
- Reset the default joystick settings, and then enable the throttle if the
default setting for the throttle is disabled. To do so, refer to the
game's documentation or manufacturer.
- Disable sound in the game software. To do so, refer to the game's
documentation or manufacturer.
- Remove and reinstall the SideWinder Game Device Software program. To do
so, follow these steps:
- In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs.
- On the Install/Uninstall tab, double-click SideWinder Game Device
Software, and then click OK.
- Insert the SideWinder Game Device Software CD-ROM into the CD-ROM
drive. If the SideWinder Game Device Setup program starts
automatically, follow the setup instructions on your screen. If the
SideWinder Game Device Setup program does not start, click Start,
point to Programs, and then click Windows Explorer. Double-click the
CD-ROM drive icon, double-click the Setup.exe file, and then follow
the setup instructions on your screen.
- Remove, and then reinstall the game program. To do so, refer to the
game's documentation or manufacturer.
- Configure the sound card to use one Direct Memory Access (DMA) channel.
