SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to calibrate a game device from inside a game, you may receive an error message similar to the following

<filename> caused an invalid page fault in module Joy.cpl

where <filename> is the name of the game's executable file.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the Game Controllers tool in Control Panel is open when you calibrate the game device from inside the game.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, quit all running programs, and then restart the computer.

To prevent this problem from occurring, make sure the Game Controllers tool in Control Panel is closed when you start a game.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft Game Device software, version 2.0.
