ID: Q191849

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Monster Truck Madness 2, version 2.0
  • Microsoft Motocross Madness, version 1.0
  • Microsoft SideWinder Precision Pro
  • Microsoft SideWinder FreeStyle Pro, version 1.0
  • Microsoft SideWinder Game Controller software version 3.0

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to use a Microsoft Universal Serial Bus (USB) game controller in a game, the game may not detect the joystick, even though you can successfully test the USB game controller in the Game Controllers tool in Control Panel.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you do not assign the USB game controller to Controller ID 1 in the Game Controllers tool in Control Panel. Some games work only with USB game controllers that are assigned to Controller ID 1.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, assign the USB game controller to Controller ID 1.

NOTE: If you are using Motocross Madness version 1.0, disconnect all the game devices from your computer except the game device with which you want to play the game.

To assign the USB game controller to Controller ID 1, follow these steps:

  1. Quit the game you are playing.

  2. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

  3. Double-click Game Controllers.

  4. Click the Advanced tab.

  5. Under Controller ID Assignment, click the game controller listed next to Controller ID 1, and then click Change.

  6. In the Game Controllers box, click the USB game controller you want, and then click OK.

  7. If the USB game controller you changed to use Controller ID 1 is using another Controller ID, click that Controller ID, click Change, click None, and then click OK.

  8. Click OK, and then close Control Panel.
