SideWinder 3D Pro: "Not Connected" Status with 100 MHz Bus Speed

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Game Controllers tool in Control Panel to configure your Microsoft SideWinder 3D Pro joystick, the status for the joystick may be "Not Connected."

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the bus speed of your computer is 100 MHz or faster.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, download and install the SideWinder 3D Pro patch.

To do this:

1. Connect to the following Microsoft Web site:




http://www.microsoft.com/products/hardware/sidewinder/downloads/default.htm

2. Click the SideWinder 3D Pro Patch-download link.



3. Click "Save this file to disk," and then click OK.



4. In the File name box, type the following line, and then click Save

   drive:\windows\system\sw3dpro.vxd

   where drive is the letter of the hard disk on which Microsoft Windows is installed.



5. When you are prompted to replace the existing file, click Yes.



6. Restart the computer.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft SideWinder 3D Pro, version 1.0.
