SideWinder Dual Strike: Status Is "Not Connected" in Game Controller Tool in Control Panel

SYMPTOMS

When you check the status of the Microsoft SideWinder Dual Strike game controller in the Game Controllers tool in Control Panel, the status may be "not connected."

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the SideWinder Dual Strike is assigned a Controller ID other than 1.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, assign the SideWinder Dual Strike to Controller ID 1:

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.



2. Double-click Game Controllers.



3. Click the Advanced tab.



4. Under Controller ID Assignment, click the game controller listed next to Controller ID 1, and then click Change.



5. In the Game Controllers box, click SideWinder Dual Strike, and then click OK.



6. If the SideWinder Dual Strike is using another Controller ID, click that Controller ID, click Change, click None, and then click OK.



7. Click OK, and then close Control Panel.
