SideWinder Force Feedback: Network Connectivity Lost After You Connect Game Controller

SYMPTOMS

If you connect the Microsoft SideWinder Force Feedback Pro or Microsoft SideWinder Force Feedback Wheel to the game port on your sound card, you may no longer be able to connect to network resources.


CAUSE

This behavior can occur if resources assigned to any of the following devices conflict with the resources assigned to your network interface card:

  • Gameport Joystick
  • MIDI-playback device
  • Sound card or audio playback device


RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use Device Manager to troubleshoot the resource conflict and manually assign resources to the network interface card.
