SideWinder Force Feedback Wheel: Cannot Create Custom Effects or Feel Force Feedback Effects

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback Wheel on a Microsoft Windows 98-based computer, you cannot create custom effects or feel force feedback effects.

NOTE: This problem does not occur on a Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition-based computer.


CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the Windows 98 HID (Human Input Device) class drivers do not support this type of HID Device.


RESOLUTION

A supported fix that corrects this problem is now available from Microsoft, but it has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. If you are not severely affected by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next service pack that contains this fix.
