ID: Q203721

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Natural Keyboard Elite, version 1.0

SYMPTOMS

When you connect the Microsoft Natural Keyboard Elite to a laptop computer, the keyboard may not be detected.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you connect the keyboard to the PS/2 port on the laptop computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods:

  • Use a PS/2-to-PS/2 adapter with internal resistors to connect the keyboard to the PS/2 port on the laptop computer.

  • Use the Universal Serial Bus (USB) adapter included with the Natural Keyboard Elite to connect the keyboard to the USB port on the laptop computer.

MORE INFORMATION

This issue occurs because the laptop computer provides power to the keyboard before the keyboard detects the PS/2 port connection. Because the keyboard does not detect the PS/2 port connection, it operates in Universal Serial Bus (USB) mode.
