ID: Q232427

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft IntelliType Pro software, version 1.0
  • Microsoft Internet Keyboard, version 1.0
  • Microsoft Internet Keyboard Pro, version 1.0
  • Microsoft Natural Keyboard Pro version 1.0

SYMPTOMS

After you install the Microsoft IntelliType Pro software, the Hot Keys on the Microsoft Natural Keyboard Pro may not function as expected. For example, one Hot Key may perform an incorrect action or not function at all, while other Hot Keys function as expected.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if a third-party keyboard control utility is running on your computer.

Examples of third-party keyboard control utilities include:

  • Compaq Easy Access
  • Hewlett-Packard Multimedia Keyboard Utility
  • IBM Rapid Access
  • Logitech Key Commander
  • Packard Bell MediaSelect
Third-party keyboard control utilities are also provided with Acer, Gateway 2000, and Sony Multimedia computers.

This behavior occurs because the scan codes issued by the keyboard are interpreted differently by each keyboard control utility.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, quit any third-party keyboard control utility that is currently running on your computer.

MORE INFORMATION

To prevent this issue from occurring, remove any third-party keyboard control utility that is currently installed on your computer. To do this, use the Add/Remove Programs tool in Control Panel.
