In the Help file for Microsoft IntelliPoint Tools & Controls, the Enabling
ClickLock topic does not describe how to enable and use ClickLock with the
version 1.0 Microsoft BallPoint Mouse. This article provides instructions
to do so.

The version 1.0 BallPoint Mouse has four buttons. To set the primary and
secondary buttons you can use either Control Panel or the IntelliPoint
Tools & Controls Buttons tab. Select one button as the primary button and
another as the secondary button. The two buttons remaining are the
alternate buttons. These alternate buttons are used for the ClickLock
function.
Use the following steps to enable and use the ClickLock feature with
version 1.0 of the BallPoint Mouse:
- Enable the ClickLock feature with the steps below:
- Open Microsoft IntelliPoint Tools & Controls in the Microsoft
Input Devices group.
- Click the Buttons tab (the default).
- Select the ClickLock Enabled check box.
- Close Microsoft IntelliPoint Tools & Controls.
- Move the mouse pointer to an icon in one of the open Program Manager
groups and click the primary button once to select the icon.
- Click either of the two alternate buttons once.
- Click the primary button once. You can now move the icon can without
holding down a mouse button.
- After moving the icon to the desired location, click any of the four
buttons to drop the icon into position.
You can use the same procedure to move selected text in a document.
Assuming the ClickLock feature is enabled as described above, use the
following steps to move text:
- Highlight (select) the text to be moved.
- Click either of the alternate buttons once.
- With the mouse pointer positioned on the selected text, click the
primary button once. (This does not remove the highlight from the text
block.) You can now move the text to another location in the file
without holding down a mouse button.
- Click any one of the four buttons to drop the text at the desired
location.
