Changing the Primary Mouse Button May Not Affect Other Mice

SYMPTOMS

When you are using the Microsoft IntelliPoint software version 2.0 with Microsoft Windows NT Server or Workstation version 3.51 or 4.0 and you change the primary mouse button, the change may not affect other mice connected to the computer.

RESOLUTION

To change the primary mouse button for all mice connected to your computer, follow these steps:

Use any text editor (such as Notepad) to create a file called Primary.reg.

Type the following lines in the Primary.reg file:
```
      REGEDIT4
      [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Mouse]
      "SwapMouseButtons"="Yes" 
```
NOTE: Type these lines exactly as shown, including the quotation marks and capitalization. Leave a blank line at the bottom of the file.

Save and then close the file.

Double-click the Primary.reg file to update the registry.

Shut down and restart the computer.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the IntelliPoint 2.0 software. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

MORE INFORMATION

You can create another .reg file with the SwapMouseButtons value set to "No" instead of "Yes" to change the primary mouse button to its default setting.
