IntelliPoint: Wheel Button Does Not Function Within Game

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft IntelliPoint software, version 3.0
  • Microsoft Wheel Mouse version 1.0


SYMPTOMS

When you use the Microsoft Wheel Mouse within a game, the wheel button may not function as the middle (or third) button.


CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the following conditions are true:

  • The Microsoft IntelliPoint software version 3.0 is installed on your computer.


  • You have assigned the wheel button to function as the middle (or third) button within the game.



RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, use one of the following methods.

  • Turn off DirectInput in the game (if available).


  • NOTE: You may need to consult your game manufacturer for instructions about how to do this.

  • Reassign the wheel button to a different function within the game.


  • Reassign the wheel button in the Mouse tool in Control Panel to a function that works within the game.


To reassign the wheel button to a different function in the Mouse tool in Control Panel:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.


  2. Double click Mouse.


  3. Click the Buttons tab.


  4. In the Wheel Button box, click the function you want to use.


  5. Click Apply, and then OK.



STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
