  • Microsoft Serial-PS/2 Mouse

SUMMARY

The PS/2-style mouse-port connecting cable for the 400ppi Microsoft Serial Mouse has been changed. The round, miniature DIN connector that plugs into the mouse port now only has four pins.

The arrangement of the pins is illustrated below:

                        | |
                    5 | | (6)*
                         --
                     3 4
                        1 (2)*
* Pins 2 and 6 are not present.

The pins are arranged in a semicircular fashion around a square plastic post. The pin assignments are as follows:

   Pin 1 = Data
   Pin 3 = Ground
   Pin 4 = Power
   Pin 5 = Clock
Originally all six pins were present, but pins 2 and 6, which were unused, were removed. The "9-pin" D-shell connector on the mouse side of the cable continues to display only four active pins.
