SUMMARY

If you run the Microsoft Mouse Setup program from the Windows File Manager without first selecting the directory that the Setup disk is in, you will receive an error message.

This information applies to version 8.2a of the Microsoft Mouse driver for Microsoft Windows on MS-DOS based systems.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

Running Mouse Driver 8.2a Setup from Windows 3.1

  1. Run Windows 3.1 File Manager.


  2. Place the mouse disk in drive A.


  3. Select any drive icon other than drive A.


  4. From the File menu, choose Run.


  5. In the Command Line box, enter "a:\setup".


The following error message will be displayed:

                STOP     Setup Cannot Open The Input File: setup.inf

                                        OK 

Running Mouse Driver 8.2a from Windows 3.0

  1. Run Windows File Manager.


  2. Place the mouse disk in drive A.


  3. Select any drive icon other than drive A.


  4. From the File menu, choose Run.


  5. In the Command Line box, enter "a:\setup".


The following error message will be displayed:

                                Change Disk
                Cannot Find WCOMMON.DLL, Please Insert in drive A:
                        OK                 CPANEL 
To avoid the error message in either of the above examples, make sure that the A directory is chosen before you choose Run from the File menu. At the MS-DOS command prompt, you can type either "a:\setup" or "setup." Either option will allow Setup to run correctly.
