ID: Q98194

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Mouse Driver for Windows, version 9.0
  • Microsoft Mouse Driver for MS-DOS, version 9.0

The setup program for the Microsoft Mouse driver 9.0 performs the following steps when you install the driver on your system:

  1. Setup displays an introduction and explanation of the Setup program.

  2. Setup checks your system hardware and configuration; for example, it counts the number of hard disk drives, checks to see if you have Windows installed, checks your current mouse driver version (.DRV and .EXE files). Based on this system check, Setup recommends the best type of setup (Windows and MS-DOS, MS-DOS only, and so forth).

  3. Setup gives you the option of typing your name as the registered user of the software; if you do not type your name, Setup displays copyright warning messages.

  4. Setup asks you to specify a directory for the installation.

  5. Setup asks you to select the type of Express Setup you want

    - Windows and MS-DOS
    - Windows only
    - MS-DOS only
    - Custom Setup option.

  6. Setup asks you to select the following startup options:

    - Add mouse driver to AUTOEXEC.BAT
    - Load mouse driver automatically at startup (default)
    - Customize the cursor for LCD screens

  7. Setup copies the files to the directory you specified in step 4, and displays a status bar indicating the percentage completed.

  8. Setup modifies your initiation files: WIN.INI, SYSTEM.INI, AUTOEXEC.BAT, and CONFIG.SYS.

  9. Setup installs Mouse Manager to allow you to orient your mouse (MS-DOS Setup), or adds MOUSEMGR.EXE to the RUN= line (Windows Setup).

  10. Setup displays a completion message and prompts you to restart your system to enable the new configuration.
