Transferring Files Dialog Box Does Not Appear When Posting Files

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Web Publishing Wizard versions 1.0, 1.0a, 1.1, 1.5 for Windows 95
  • Microsoft Web Publishing Wizard versions 1.0, 1.0a, 1.1, 1.5 for Windows NT 4.0


SYMPTOMS

When you post files, the Transferring Files dialog box may not appear.


CAUSE

This behavior can occur for any of the following reasons:

  • You are using Microsoft Web Publishing Wizard 1.5, and you did not select Other Internet Provider in the Service Provider box.


  • You are using Microsoft Web Publishing Wizard 1.1 or earlier, and you did not select Automatically Select Service Provider when you received the following prompt:
    Select Your Internet Service Provider from the list. If yours is not listed, select <Other Internet Provider>.


  • You are posting files that are 2K or less in size.



RESOLUTION

If you want the Transferring Files dialog box to appear when you post files, and the files you post are larger than 2K, use the appropriate method.

NOTE: The Tranferring Files dialog box may not appear if you post files that are 2K or less in size.

Version 1.5

Select "Other Internet Provider" in the Service Provider box. To do so, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Internet Explorer, and then click Web Publishing Wizard.

    NOTE: If you installed Web Publishing Wizard 1.5 on your computer before installing Internet Explorer 4.0, click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Web Publishing, and then click Web Publishing Wizard.


  2. Click Next.


  3. In the File Or Folder Name box, type the path to the file or folder for the Web content you want to post, and then click Next.

    NOTE: To select only one file to post, click Browse Files, navigate to the folder that contains the file you want to post, click the file, and then click OK. To select all of the files and folders within a folder, click Browse Folders, navigate to the folder that contains the files you want to post, click the folder, click the Include Subfolders check box to select it, and then click OK.


  4. In the Descriptive Name box, type a descriptive name for the Web site you are posting to, and then click Next.


  5. In the Service Provider box, click Automatically Select Service Provider.


  6. Click Next to continue through the Web Publishing Wizard.


Version 1.1 and Earlier

Select "Automatically Select Service Provider." To do so, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to Internet Tools, and then click Web Publishing Wizard.


  2. Click Next.


  3. In the File Or Folder Name box, type the path to the file or folder for the Web content you want to post, and then click Next.


  4. Click New when you receive the following prompt:
    Select the name of a Web server from the list. To add a Web server to the list, click New.


  5. Click Other Internet Provider when you receive the following prompt:
    Select Your Internet Service Provider from the list. If yours is not listed, select <Other Internet Provider>.


  6. Click Next to continue through the Web Publishing Wizard.



MORE INFORMATION

When you successfully post files, although the Transferring Files dialog box may not appear, you should receive the following message:

The Web Publishing Wizard has successfully published your file(s) to the Web server.
