Err Msg: Unable to Open the Report File .\~cabpack.rpt

ID: Q158730

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer Administration Kit version 3.2a

SYMPTOMS

When you run the Internet Explorer Administration Kit (IEAK) Wizard, you may receive the following error message:

Unable to open the report file '.\~cabpack.rpt'
This is followed by the following error message:
Cannot create or replace Autorun.inf. Access is denied.

CAUSE

  1. When you run the IEAK Wizard, you are given the option to include custom files. If you add any file that has the same name as a name on the following list, you will receive an error while building the distributable files. When the Wizard tries to create the customized version of the file, you will receive the errors listed at the beginning of this article.

The following files are used internally by the Setup mechanism for Internet Explorer and the IEAK, and should not be used as optional component file names:
    Iedkcs32.dll
    Install.exe
    Install.ins
    Iexplore.inf
    Activex.inf
    Addons.inf
    Iexplore.cab
    Infinst.exe
    Inst16.dll
    Inst32.dll
    -or-

  2. This same error message also occurs if the user is including any custom executable to be installed along with IE and the executable is located in the same directory as the custom files.

RESOLUTION

  1. Do not include optional components that have the same names as those files on the list of reserved file names above.

    -or-

  2. Move the custom executable to its own directory before running the IEAK Wizard.
