IMPORTANT: This article contains information about editing the registry. Before you edit the registry, make sure you understand how to restore it if a problem occurs. For information about how to do this, view the "Restoring the Registry" Help topic in Regedit.exe or the "Restoring a Registry Key" Help topic in Regedt32.exe.

SYMPTOMS

When you install a build of Internet Explorer, the package fails during the ACME setup phase. No error messages occur and the Active Setup Log.txt and Internet Explorer Setup Log.txt do not show any errors. Setup fails in the middle of the install.

CAUSE

Intel Landesk (an antivirus program) version 5.02 running in real-time scan mode causes this problem.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, you can temporarily disable the real-time scanning while installing Internet Explorer.

To do this, do the following:

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Changing Keys and Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) or the "Add and Delete Information in the Registry" and "Edit Registry Data" Help topics in Regedt32.exe. Note that you should back up the registry before you edit it. If you are running Windows NT, you should also update your Emergency Repair Disk (ERD).

  1. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).

  2. Locate the value under the following key in the registry:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\intel\landesk\virusprotect5\
    currentversion\realtimescan

NOTE: The above registry key is one path; it has been wrapped for readability.

  3. Change the value to 0 to disable and wait 30 seconds for this to take effect.

  4. Quit Registry Editor.

  5. Run the Internet Explorer 4.0 install program.

  6. Set the registry value back to 1.
