Configuring IEAK to Include SP1 in a Version of Internet

-
Microsoft Internet Explorer Administration Kit versions 4.01, 4.01a
SYMPTOMS
The Internet Explorer Administration Kit (IEAK) downloads the Internet Explorer 4.01 cab files. With the release of Internet Explorer 4.01 SP1, you may need to know how to obtain the SP1 version installed with the IEAK.
RESOLUTION
The IEAK 4.01a Wizard uses a feature called Automatic Version Synchronization (AVS).
This component, if enabled when you run the Wizard, checks the Microsoft Web servers for the latest version of Internet Explorer 4.x. It then compares this with the version that is currently installed in the c:\Program Files\IEAK\download folder. If a newer version is available, AVS identifies this in the wizard and lets you decide whether or not to "synchronize" the component.
In synchronizing, the AVS downloads the IE 4.01 SP1 cab files so that they are included in the build of IE 4.01.
After you download the latest version information, AVS will then indicate Internet Explorer 4.01 SP1 as the browser component, and that it is not the latest version. (A green check means you have the latest component.)
If this does not occur and the AVS indicates the Internet Explorer 4.0 or 4.01 browser without SP1 in the title, try the following:
- Make sure that you have the latest version of
IEAK, which is version 4.01a.
- Make sure that the browser on the IEAK computer is
Internet Explorer 4.01 or Internet Explorer 4.01 SP1.
- Delete all files from the Internet Explorer Temporary
Internet Files cache by doing the following:
- Click Start.
- Point to Programs.
- Point to Internet Explorer.
- Click Internet Explorer.
- On the View menu click Internet Options.
- On the General tab click Delete Files.
- Click OK twice.
- IF AVS still does not work, remove the IEAK and reinstall it
from the Microsoft Web server at http://ieak.microsoft.com. To remove the IEAK, do the following:
- Right-click Start and click Explore.
- Browse to c:\Program Files\IEAK (this is the default install
location, you location may be different).
- Double-click uninstak.exe to uninstall the IEAK.
You can also remove IEAK by doing the following:
- Click Start and point to Settings
- Click Control Panel
- Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon
- Highlight Internet Explorer Administration Kit
- Click Add/Remove
