SUMMARY

This article contains information about Internet Service Provider (.isp) and Internet Setup (.ins) files, and provides references to additional information about these types of files.

MORE INFORMATION

There are two different types of files used in a sign-up scenario, the Internet Service Provider file and the Internet Setup file. The Internet Service Provider file contains the information that a computer needs to connect to a sign-up Web server connected to the Public Switch Telephone Network (PSTN). Note that a single .isp file can be used by all computers that want to sign up.

The Internet Setup file contains the parameters needed to set up Internet access and service for the customer. The Internet Setup file is generated dynamically by the sign-up server as a result of the customer signing up for an account. The .ins file will be unique for all users wanting to sign up. The Internet Explorer Administration Kit (IEAK) Wizard enables the Internet Service Provider to easily generate a large part of the .ins file.

Additional documentation about .isp and .ins file formats is available in the Internet Explorer Administration Kit:

IEAK 4.x

View the Insref.htm file in the driver letter:\Program Files\IEAK\Help folder, where driver letter is the drive where the IEAK is installed.

IEAK 5.0
