  • Improved compatibility with the PowWow Internet Chat service. You can now use links in the PowWow Internet Chat service to start Internet Explorer automatically.


  • Improved support for PASV (passive) File Transfer Protocol (FTP) transfers. This feature helps prevent the "The server returned extended information" error that occurs when you are attempting to connect to an FTP site.


  • Improved support for Internet sites that use Common Gateway Interface (CGI) scripts to redirect browsers to a particular file. This feature helps prevent the "Handle is invalid" error that occurs when you are attempting to download files from the Internet.


  • Improved rendering of Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) images when you are using a 16-color palette. JPEG images (.jpg files) are now displayed properly when a 16-color palette is used.


  • Improved Java virtual machine (VM). The Java VM now provides better integration with the communications components of Windows 95.


  • New margin syntax for style sheets.


  • Improved installation process. The Setup program now supports specifying the folder into which you want to install Internet Explorer if a previous version of Internet Explorer is not found.


  • Improved compatibility with the Novell NetWare 32-bit client.
