SYMPTOMS

When you click the link in Internet Explorer to download or learn about America OnLine (AOL) 3.0 at http://www.aol.com, you receive one of the following error messages:

  • Internet Explorer cannot open the Internet site at aol://1722:get30/. The protocol specified in this address is not valid. Make sure the address is correct, and try again.


  • Internet Explorer cannot open the Internet site at aol://1722:preview/. The protocol specified in this address is not valid. Make sure the address is correct, and try again.

AOL uses its own proprietary Universal Resource Identifier (URL) protocol for access to some of its Web pages, including the pages providing a preview and download of AOL 3.0 for Windows. These pages are designed to be accessed by AOL members using the AOL Web browser, which supports this protocol.
