ID: Q154464

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer version 3.0 for Windows 95

SYMPTOMS

After you create a new shortcut, such as a shortcut to a Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) file, in the Favorites folder, the shortcut may not be displayed on the Favorites menu.

CAUSE

The Favorites menu displays only Internet shortcuts and folders.

RESOLUTION

To add a new item to the Favorites menu, use one of the following methods:

  • Open the site or document you want to add to the Favorites menu, and then click Add To Favorites on the Favorites menu.

  • Use the right mouse button to click a hypertext link or Web page, and then click Add To Favorites on the menu that appears.

  • If you are creating a shortcut to a local or remote HTML document in the Organize Favorites dialog box, place "FILE:///" (without quotation marks) in front of the command line for the document. For example,
    file:///c:\<document>.htm

    -or-

    file:///\\<server>\<share>\<document>.htm

MORE INFORMATION

The Favorites menu displays only Internet shortcuts that reference a valid Uniform Resource Locator (URL) or folder. A normal shortcut link does not appear on the Favorites menu in Internet Explorer 3.0.
