ID: Q154533

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer version 3.0 for Windows 95

SYMPTOMS

After you uninstall (or remove) Internet Explorer 3.0 for Windows 95, the Internet icon is missing from the desktop but remains in Control Panel (Point to Settings on the Start menu and click Control Panel).

RESOLUTION

To re-create the Internet icon, reinstall Internet Explorer 3.0 or the earlier version of Internet Explorer. To reinstall either program, run the Setup program again.

STATUS

This behavior is by design. If you reinstall Internet Explorer later, the previous configuration is used.

MORE INFORMATION

To uninstall Internet Explorer 3.0, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.

  3. On the Install/Uninstall tab, click Internet Explorer 3.0 in the list of installed programs, and then click Add/Remove.

<Windows> is the name of the folder in which you installed Windows.

  2. Click Rename or Delete to rename or delete the Inetcpl.cpl file.

  3. In Control Panel, click Refresh on the View menu.
