Walking Through Objects with VRML Add-In

ID: Q154705

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer version 3.0 for Windows 95

SYMPTOMS

When you are navigating through 3-D virtual worlds using the Microsoft Virtual Reality Modeling Language (VRML) Add-In for Internet Explorer 3.0, you are able to move through objects, such as walls.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if either of the following conditions exists:

  • The Walk Through Walls option in VRML Add-In is enabled.

  • The VRML world does not support collision detection.

RESOLUTION

To disable the Walk Through Walls option in VRML Add-In, follow these steps:

  1. Place the mouse pointer inside the VRML image.

  2. Use the right mouse button to click the image. If the Walk Through Walls option is selected (has a check mark next to it), click Walk Through Walls to clear the check mark.

If the Walk Through Walls option is disabled, but you can still move through objects in the virtual world, the virtual world does not support collision detection. There is no way to prevent moving through objects in this case.

MORE INFORMATION

The Walk Through Walls option in VRML Add-In is enabled by default. With the Walk Through Walls option disabled, VRML Add-In detects the surfaces of objects in the virtual world and collides with them instead of allowing you to navigate through them. Note that disabling the Walk Through Walls option may make navigation through virtual worlds slower.
