Edit Commands Unavailable After Selecting URL in Address Box

ID: Q155439

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer version 3.0 for Windows 95

SYMPTOMS

When you select a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) address in the Address box in Microsoft Internet Explorer version 3.0 for Windows 95, the Cut and Copy commands on the Edit menu are unavailable. The Paste command on the Edit menu is available, but does not function properly. If you cut or copy an address from another location and then attempt to use the Paste command on the Edit menu to paste it into the Address box, the address is not pasted.

RESOLUTION

To cut or copy a URL address in the Address box, select the address using the mouse or the CTRL+TAB key combination, use the right mouse button to click the address, and then click Cut or Copy on the menu that appears. You can also press CTRL+X or CTRL+C (instead of using the right mouse button to click the address and then clicking Cut or Copy). After cutting or copying an address in the Address box, you can paste the address in another program using the appropriate menu command, mouse action, or key combination for that program.

To paste an address into the Address box, cut or copy the address from another location, select the address that is currently in the Address box using the mouse or the CTRL+TAB key combination, use the right mouse button to click the address that is currently in the Address box, and then click Paste on the menu that appears. You can also press CTRL+V (instead of using the right mouse button to click the address that is currently in the Address box and then clicking Paste).
