Content Advisor Warns on URLs Containing "~" in Name

When you are using the rating system in Internet Explorer and you try to open a Web page that has been rated with the RSACi - PICS rating system, you are prompted to enter the supervisor password to view the page.

When you are using the rating system in Internet Explorer and you try to open a Web page that has been rated with the RSACi - PICS rating system, you may receive a warning from Content Advisor stating that the rating label does not belong to the page. For example, you may receive the following error message:

The rating label found for "http://www.<site>.com/~<name>/" does not belong to this page.

It is intended for "http://www.<site>.com/~<name>/" instead.

You are then prompted to enter the supervisor password to view the page.

CAUSE

This is a known issue with Internet Explorer when you are using the RSACi - PICS rating system and you try to access a page containing a tilde character (~) in its name

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, use either of the following methods:

Move the files to directory with a name that does not start with a tilde character.

If you can make changes to the page, remove the
"for "http://www.<site>.com/~<name>/""

section from the ratings meta tag. This portion of the tag is not necessary for the rating system to operate.
