Cannot Load VRML Page with Windows 3.1 Diamond Viper Drivers

SYMPTOMS

When you load a Virtual Reality Modeling Language (VRML) page (or virtual world) in Microsoft Internet Explorer version 3.0 for Windows 95, your computer may stop responding (hang), or a general protection fault may occur.


CAUSE

This problem is known to occur when you have a Diamond Viper PCI display adapter installed in your computer and you are using third-party Windows 3.1 display drivers for the adapter.


RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, use one of the following methods:

  • Contact Diamond to inquire about protected-mode drivers for your display adapter for use with Windows 95.


  • Configure Windows 95 to use the Standard Display Adapter (VGA) or Super VGA display adapter type. To do so, follow these steps:

    1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Display.


    2. Click the Settings tab, and then click Change Display Type.


    3. In the Adapter Type area, click Change, and then click Show All Devices.


    4. Click (Standard Display Types) in the Manufacturers box, click Standard Display Adapter (VGA) or Super VGA in the Models box, and then click OK.
