Cannot Install Internet Explorer from Root Folder

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to install any of the Microsoft Internet Explorer for Windows 3.1 versions listed above, you may receive the following error message:

The specified directory:

'<drive>:\IEXPLORE'

is in the Setup source file directory. Please type a different directory.
If you click OK, the installation process does not continue.


CAUSE

This behavior occurs if you attempt to install Internet Explorer for Windows 3.1 from the root folder of a drive.


RESOLUTION

Move the contents of the self-extracting Internet Explorer installation file to an empty folder other than the root folder, and then install Internet Explorer from that folder. For information on how to move a folder, start File Manager, and search Help on moving directories.
