File Download Does Not Resume If Disconnected

ID: Q162815

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer for Macintosh
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer for Windows 95
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer for Windows 3.1
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer for Windows NT 3.51
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer for Windows NT 4.0

SUMMARY

If your modem is disconnected from your Internet service provider (ISP) while you are downloading a file from the Internet, the file download does not automatically resume from the point at which it was interrupted when you reconnect to your ISP. You must start the file download again.

MORE INFORMATION

The versions of Internet Explorer listed above do not have the capability to resume downloading a file from the point at which the download process was interrupted. For file download to continue from the point at which it was interrupted, both the Internet server and Internet Explorer would have to support this functionality. The Internet server would require the ability to insert file recovery information into the download stream, and Internet Explorer would require the ability to compare the attributes of the file that was not completely downloaded with the recovery information provided by the server.
