SYMPTOMS

When you try to access your Start page using Internet Explorer, you may receive the following error message:

The protocol specified in this address is not valid. Make sure the address is correct and try again.


CAUSE

This error can occur if there is an extra character (such as a period) in front of the Web address for your Start page.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

  1. In Internet Explorer, click Options on the View menu.


  2. Click the Navigation tab, and verify that the Web address for your Start page begins with http:. There should be no extra characters in front of "http:".


  3. Click OK.
