SYMPTOMS
If Netscape Navigator is installed on a computer running Microsoft Windows
95 or Windows NT 4.0, you may have different proxy settings for Hypertext
Transfer Protocol (HTTP), secure Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTPS), File
Transfer Protocol (FTP), and Gopher. If you install Internet Explorer
version 3.0, 3.01, or 3.02 over the Netscape Navigator installation,
Internet Explorer sets all the proxy settings to the HTTP proxy settings.
CAUSEThe algorithm for Infinst.exe checks only the Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0 registry setting for the Netscape Navigator HTTP proxy information. This algorithm then uses this one proxy setting for all Internet Explorer settings. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Internet Explorer versions 3.0, 3.01, and 3.02. An update to address this problem is now available, but is not fully regression tested and should be applied only to computers experiencing this specific problem. Unless you are severely impacted by this specific problem, Microsoft does not recommend implementing this update at this time. Contact Microsoft Technical Support for additional information about the availability of this update. MORE INFORMATION
The updated Infinst.exe file keeps only the settings for the HTTP, HTTPS,
FTP, and Gopher proxy settings from Netscape Navigator. This file does not
keep any other proxy settings.
