How to Change the Country/Region and Language for the Channel Bar

SUMMARY

This article describes how to change the Channel bar contents for a different country/region and language after you have installed Internet Explorer.

NOTE: The information in this article applies only if you have installed Internet Explorer from the Internet Explorer CD-ROM.

During the installation of Internet Explorer, Active Setup prompts you to select a country/region and language. The Channel bar displays links to various companies and publishers based on the country/region and language you select.

To Change the Channel Bar Contents for a Different Country/Region

To change the channel bar contents for a different country/region, follow these steps:

  1. Insert the Internet Explorer CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, and then close the Welcome screen if it appears.


  2. Click Start, point to Programs, and then click MS-DOS Prompt (in Windows 95) or Command Prompt (in Windows NT).


  3. At the command prompt, type the following commands, pressing ENTER after each command
    cd\
    md ietemp
    extract /e /l <drive>:\ietemp <CD-ROM>:<path>\<language>.cab
    where <drive> is the hard disk on which the Ietemp folder is located, <CD-ROM> is the drive letter assigned to the CD-ROM drive, <language>.cab is the appropriate cabinet file from the list below, and <path> is one of the following paths:
    - Internet Explorer Plus 4.0 CD-ROM: Win95\Eng\Packages
    - Internet Explorer 4.0 Commemorative CD-ROM: En\Ie40


  4. Type "exit" (without the quotation marks), and then press ENTER.


  5. Click Start, point to Programs, click Windows Explorer, and then double-click the Ietemp folder.


  6. Right-click the <language>.inf file, and then click Install, where <language> is the country/region and language you selected in step 3.


  7. Close the Ietemp folder, click Start, click Shut Down, click Restart (or Restart The Computer), and then click Yes or OK.


  8. Delete the Ietemp folder you created in step 3. For information about how to delete a folder, click Start, click Help, click the Index tab, type "deleting" (without the quotation marks), click Files Or Folders, click Display, and then click Display.
