Unable to Automatically Update Subscriptions

SYMPTOMS
When a computer running Windows 95, Windows 95 OEM Service Release 2, 2.1,
or 2.5 (OSR2), or Windows 98 tries to automatically connect to the
Internet to update subscriptions, the computer may be unable to connect to
the Internet to update subscriptions.
CAUSE
This issue can occur if your computer is configured to use Advanced Power
Management (APM) features, and is in a low power state at the scheduled
time for updating subscriptions.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, disable APM support. To do so, use the appropriate
method:
Windows 95
- Disable APM in your computer's Basic Input/Output System (BIOS). For
information about how to disable APM in your computer's BIOS, consult
the documentation included with your computer.
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click System, click the Device Manager tab, double-click the
System Devices branch to expand it, and then click Advanced Power
Management Support.
- Click Settings, and then click the Enable Power Management Support
check box to clear it.
- Click OK, click OK, close Control Panel, and then restart your
computer.
OSR2 and Windows 98
- Disable APM in your computer's Basic Input/Output System (BIOS). For
information about how to disable APM in your computer's BIOS, consult
the documentation included with your computer.
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Power, and then click the "Allow Windows to manage power
use on this computer" check box to clear it.
- Click OK, close Control Panel, and then restart your computer.
