Internet Explorer 3.02 Does Not Download Signed File with NTLM

SYMPTOMS

When you try to download a signed file using NTLM (challenge/response) authentication from a server using Microsoft Internet Information Server, you may not receive an authentication dialog box and the file may not be downloaded.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, download the latest Java Virtual Machine for Internet Explorer 3.02 from the following Microsoft Web site:

http://www.microsoft.com/java

You may expect to see an error message similar to:

Security Warning
Warning: The authenticity of this content cannot be verified, therefore it cannot be trusted.
Then, you may expect to be able to choose whether or not to download the file. However, when this problem occurs, there is no error message or any other sign of a problem. The file is simply not downloaded.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.02 for Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0.
